At the Hall of Fame Dinner held at Hilton Metropole, Birmingham, Basil Heatley was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Basil now 82 years of age had a fantastic record as a Cross Country runner and started and finished his career with Coventry Godiva Harriers.
He won a bronze in the National Youths race in 1951 and bronze again in the National Junior race in 1952 and then the Senior titles in 1960, 61 and 63.
Cross Country wise he topped this off by winning the International in 1961 the fore runner of the World Cross Country Championships, he also had a 2nd in 1957 and 3 more top 10 finishes in this event.
Basil then turned his attention to the Marathon notching up fast times before winning the Olympic silver in a epic race in Tokyo, he then retired from Championship running and moved on to be a British Team Manager. Seen as guest on many occasions at National Cross Country Championships the ECCA is delighted that Basil has been inducted into the Hall of Fame and is seen in the photo with Ron Hill and Bill Adcocks all 3 great Cross Country runners., see the attached photo.
